FDA Updates Guidance on Clinical Decision Support

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has updated its guidance on clinical decision support (CDS) software, reaffirming that any function analyzing medical images to generate diagnostic recommendations remains under FDA oversight. The revision also clarifies that certain CDS functions—such as tools offering a single clinically appropriate recommendation for provider review based on medical records and guidelines—may fall outside FDA regulation if they satisfy all statutory criteria.
